With Haven House every step of the way

Every hour counts for the families supported by Haven House because caring for a seriously ill child can be emotionally and physically challenging. The children’s hospice, of which CJC is an ardent supporter, once again highlighted its delivery of round the clock care, seven days in its ‘24/7 Challenge’ fundraiser for 2021.  Many of CJC’s Directors and staff took part in the challenge.

With frontline nurses available year-round, Haven House enables families to make the most of their time together, giving them practical and emotional support, whenever they need it, for as long as is needed.

In June, CJC staff, friends and family represented one of the 16 teams taking part in the 2021 Corporate Challenge to walk, run and cycle 247km for Haven House, contributing to the raising of an amazing £50,000.

All of those at CJC who took part deserve a pat on the back – one in a series of events which this year has been keeping our team fit, healthy and busier than ever in a terrific cause. The Corporate Challenge follows hard on the heels of the Haven House ‘Chasing Bunnies’ fun run at Easter and (fingers crossed!) will be followed by participation in the London Landmarks Half Marathon, the London Marathon and a bike ride.

CJC points of contact with Haven House are Alistair Johnston and Maria Borg Barthet, and Maria is already in training for the full marathon.

“Haven House is a beautiful hospice and the families involved, staff and supporters are hugely inspiring,” she says. “It predominantly looks after and supports children and young people who have life-limiting or life threatening conditions, as well as their families. Care is provided at the hospice itself in Woodford Green and in the community.

“The work done is impressive but the strength, love and attitude with which it is done is what is really overwhelming. To achieve this, Haven House needs to raise £4.4 million a year. Not sure what they were thinking when they trusted me to join their 2021 London marathon team but, somehow, I am going to get round those 42.2 kms!”
