Haven House Children’s Hospice

Imagine what it must be like to know that your child may not live to see adulthood, or live the life you had hoped for. Now think about having to cope with that emotion every day whilst trying to deal with the additional practical  and financial pressures placed on your family.

This is the reality that thousands of families have to face every year.

This is the reality that thousands of families have to face every year. Haven House Children’s Hospice knows how difficult it is to be told that your child has a serious, rare, life-limiting or life-threatening condition, as they have supported more than 350 families since they first opened their doors in 2003. Now in their 10th birthday year, around 150 children from birth to 19 years old across London and West Essex benefit from Haven House’s services.

Their fantastic nursing team focuses on the child, not the child’s conditions or problems. Their approach to care differs for each child to make sure they are comfortable and have the opportunity to lead fulfilling and stimulated lives, offering:

  • Respite care, through day care and overnight stays
  • Specialist therapies such as music and sensory therapy, special yoga, toy home loan and therapeutic play
  • End of life care.

Haven House is a very special place, where they also extend a range of support to the wider family to help them cope with the emotional, practical and financial pressures of caring for their child. Through their very active sibling support group, ‘Buddies’, counselling sessions, coffee mornings for parents and carers and a family flat to allow parents to stay overnight at the hospice, they support the whole family.

Haven House Children’s Hospice delivers a sense of support and trust, and, most importantly, can ease the burden of care.
