We share in the grief of the maritime community for the very sad loss of Julian Clark, one of CJC’s founding partners. Julian was one of a kind.
Julian was a longstanding mentor to many of us as well as an inspiring colleague. He took the most wonderful and unique approach to his work as a maritime lawyer. He worked with panache, drive and intellectual vigour. His charisma and passion for the subject was legendary. Without compromising on delivering service, he managed to inject warmth, compassion and a wonderfully infectious sense of humour to his work, bringing colour and light to every type of case - there was never a dull moment working with Julian.
Julian was a bold and original thinker who steadfastly adhered to his principles and beliefs. He had an irrepressible determination to challenge conventional wisdom. There are many in the maritime legal world who owe a great debt of gratitude to Julian for the support and encouragement that he gave, allowing them the chance for a place in the sun when others may have consigned them to a career in the shade. His spirit and indominable character lives on through the legacy that he has left.
We send our thoughts and sincere condolences to Julian’s wife, Liz at this sad time.
As we go forward, we will remember Julian and the firm will carry his name with respect and gratitude for all that he did.
