Recent press coverage of Campbell Johnston Clark.
Three experienced shipping lawyers have branched out to form their own specialised marine law firm.
Campbell Johnston Clark has just been launched by Jonathan Campbell, Alistair Johnston and Julian Clark, all of whom worked as partners at Holman Fenwick & Willan (HFW) for seven years.
The London-based partnership will offer finance and litigation services.
Campbell will undertake the financial side, acting for both banks and shipowners, Clark will specialise in contractual dispute resolution and casualty work, while Johnston will focus on shipping and marine insurance.
“We want to cover all aspects of the shipping industry and don’t want to get too big,” said Campbell.
As big international legal firms get larger, the day-to-day connection with the client is sometimes strained and the trio are keen to keep a direct link with their clients and to offer more flexible services, he adds.
The three lawyers say many clients they have worked with during their time at HFW will move with them.
The trio have a particular strength in the Turkish market and estimate that eight of the 10 biggest shipping companies in Turkey will shift their business to the new partnership.
Target markets also include Greece, where the lawyers already have clients.
