As the Olympic torch heads from Tokyo for Paris, the running feats of a group athletes closer to home merit acknowledgement, following their efforts to complete the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 1st August, organised by pregnancy charity Tommy’s.
Among thousands taking part on behalf of some 215 charities participating this year, CJC’s Ian Short was one of the 15 runners to complete the course in support of Haven House. The Essex-based hospice provides specialist care to children who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and this year raised £11,000 in Landmarks Half Marathon sponsorships.
Starting from Trafalgar Square, the distinctive purple Haven House vests flashed through the streets of Westminster and the City, passing some glittering landmarks, including St Paul’s, the Monument and Downing Street, along a route lined with singers, dancers and musicians.
Ian kept the CJC flame burning bright, clocking in with a time of 1hr 41mins over the distance of 13 miles and raising close to £1,500 for the Haven House Appeal in the process, but all finishers proved to be winners when it came to receiving a glowing commemorative medal.
Ian has asked that potential donors are made aware that the relevant sponsorship page remains open for a short period. For more details on the appeal, see here [https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ian-short9]
