A group of 125 Cyclists will be saddling up in a good cause on Saturday 4 September 2021 to take on the Graig100 Bike Ride, and among them will be CJC’s own Richard Hickey and Kaan Polat.
Now in its second year, the Graig100 is the brainchild of Cardiff-based CJC client Graig Shipping. The challenging cycle provides an opportunity for individual riders to support local charity Velindre Cancer Centre, and for riders and teams from the shipping industry to raise funds in aid of The Mission to Seafarers.
According to the organisers, “the last 12 months have been unprecedented for us all but particularly those at sea and suffering from illness. We want to give something back and to help support the physical and mental health of seafarers and their families as they endure danger and isolation each day.” The intense pressure under which global health services have been working through COVID-19 can put additional strain on those undergoing life-saving treatments, the Graig100 team point out.
This year Graig has aimed to accommodate all skill levels by developing three cycle routes of different degrees. ‘The Full Monty’ is for riders ready to complete the original 100km route (ca. 4,250ft elevation). An alternative is provided by the 60km (2,000ft) ‘Graigwen Challenge’, while those preferring a more stately cycle on the flat can enjoy their stunning scenery from the ‘Garden Route’.
The riders will mount up in groups at Cardiff’s Brewhouse Bar and Kitchen, setting off for the Graigwen mountain before taking in the Welsh hills and returning to their starting point for a celebratory meal.
In 2019 the inaugural Graig100 ride raised £37,000 which is a target they would like to meet and, if possible, exceed, with your help.
