Recent and imminent efforts to raise money for good causes are ensuring that free time is not necessarily being used for leisure by members of the CJC team.

Alistair Johnston, Paul Crockford of Starr Insurance Companies and Wilco Alberda of Smit put in the cycling miles on behalf of Action Medical Research in September, in a Ride Across Britain from Land’s End to John O’Groats, with donations going to saving and changing the lives of children. Alistair described the nine-day, 980-mile cycle - which also involved 56,000 feet of climbing - as “gruelling but physically and mentally rewarding”, adding heartfelt thanks to sponsors whose contributions exceeded the £15,000 target.

In a separate endeavour, in October Alistair, Maria Borg Barthet and Deji Sasegbon will form the CJC contingent joining a group of 10 industry peers running the Amsterdam half-marathon for Haven House Children’s Hospice. CJC is a longstanding supporter of Haven House and its work to ensure that no family looking after a child with a life-limiting condition must face it alone. See www.havenhouse.org.
