CJC Singapore is running a Seminar Series in 2017 at our offices on Amoy Street. Topics will be varied and talks interactive. If you are based in Singapore or are visiting at that time, feel free to join us for food, a glass of wine, beer or a coffee in an informal setting as we discuss the latest topical issues. The first round of seminars include:
- 29 March, 6pm, “Pilots”: one of our Master Mariners, Paul Martin, will be talking about pilotage issues. The talk will cover both the practical and legal aspects of pilotage and explore when matters go wrong before and after disembarkation as well as unsafe port issues. Paul spent 9 years as a pilot in the UK.
- 17 May, 6pm, “Risk in CIF and FOB contracts”: Filippo Lorenzon, CJC consultant and Professor of Maritime and Commercial Law at the Institute of Maritime Law at Southampton Law School, is the author of the 2017 edition of Sweet & Maxwell’s “CIF and FOB contracts”. Yvonne Baatz, a contributor to the book, will also be in attendance. Filippo will talk about the latest issues in this area. Copies of the book will be on display together with discount vouchers.
- 21 June, 6pm: “Cyber Crime in Shipping: A Case Study”. Ian Short will explore how to respond to a cyber crime attack where hire payments are intercepted, increasing your chances of recovering the fraudulent proceeds and dealing with your contractual counterparties. The seminar will take the form of an interactive case study.
- 26 July, 6pm: “2017 Maritime Case Law Update”. This talk will bring you up to speed with the latest maritime law developments in 2017, presented by various members of the CJC Singapore team.
