Filippo Lorenzon, Director of the Institute of Maritime Law at the University of Southampton and consultant to the rapidly expanding maritime specialist Campbell Johnston Clark LLP, has co-authored (with Richard Coles) the first legal practitioner’s book dedicated to legal issues in the world of "superyachts".
The new book, to be published in time for the Monaco Yacht Show, will be the focus of a launch party in London later in the year to be hosted by CJC, with which firm Filippo Lorenzon has been associated since September 2011. Speaking of his latest publication, Filippo said:
“The last three decades have witnessed a massive growth in the superyacht market and huge investments in technical research, design, dedicated infrastructure and specialist service providers. International, regional and national regulators, industry associations and lawyers have followed suit. The result is a complex and somewhat fragmented legal picture which, very much like a cubist painting, may only be thoroughly understood when looked at in its entirety and in a proper context by an expert eye.
This is what I wanted to achieve with The Law of Yachts and Yachting and the team of experts behind the book has undoubtedly succeeded in this quest. The treatise covers the range of issues that can confront those involved in the life of a superyacht (from its building and registration, and insurance to chartering, all the way to its recycling).”
The book includes a detailed legal review of the maritime legal issues, including admiralty, safety and the LY2, European legislation and practice, as well as issues related to VAT. More details »
